Myers for Yakupov would probably only happen if the Sabres somehow got the rights to Suter/Weber. It's not that the trade isn't a good idea and perhaps a win-win for both teams but with a "win now" mentality, the Sabres aren't going to stay patient and wait for Yakupov to grow.

I would have thought it a crazy idea a few months ago, but Tyler Myers for a first rounder + a prospect is something that might actually work.

Shutdown Nuge for the season and let him gain 10lbs over the summer. Gonna be a star soon enough!

And I agree with you on continuing to build the top six.

The Oilers have other needs. For example, if the Oilers 1st line is Hall/Nuge/Eberle, all we have is Sam Gagner for the 2nd line. In other words, the Oil are two players short. There is a strong likelihood on draft day you'll hear Oilers GM Steve Tambellini proudly select center Mikhal Grigorenko if the Oilers pick 2nd, or winger Filip Forsberg if the Oilers pick 3rd or 4th. You could even hear Tambellini calling out center Alex Galchenyuk's name if they pick 5th thru 7th.

Of course, the Oilers could win the lotto and pick 1st. McKenzie pretty much cleared up any confusing over what happens there. Nail Yakupov is the clear top prospect. Of course, the Oilers, if they pick 1st overall, could deal it to Buffalo straight up for stud defenseman Tyler Myers. Don't laugh, folks. As good as Yakupov is, I'd deal him for Myers straight up. Oilers have enough firepower and enough prospect depth at forward. Myers would bring instand credibility to the D.

I mean, I get what your trying to say, but thats incredibly contradictory.

Oilers should pick the best player available. If they are picking in the 3-7 range and a guy like Grigorenko is there, you take him. But say the Oilers pick third or fourth, and Yakupov and Grigorenko are picked. If the Oilers pick a guy like Forsberg over Dumba or Murray, I'm gonna freak.

I dont even think the Sabres do Myers for first overall straight up, honestly. At least, I wouldnt.

That would work for both teams... although it is really tough to think we would let a #1 potential center go in Grigs...

Myers, Miller, AND Roy?

Edmonton would have to trade half their team for a deal like that to work.

Try Khabbi, Paajarvi, Hemsky Pitlick, Lander, Smid, and two 1sts, and I dont even know if thats enough.

You can't just get a 1st line center, a top 5 goalie, and a top pairing, future norris dman for nothing. That would be one of the biggest trades to go down in history.

Why would Buffalo make this trade?

Who is Grigs?

Not to crap all over your blog, but you said the Oilers defence isn't as desperate as people think, so they could very well draft a forward. Fair enough. But then the next point is you would trade the 1st overall pick if they get, so basically Nail Yakupov, the prize of this draft, for Tyler Myers? I am just a little confused to which side of the fence you are on.

Myers is good. But ever since his rookie campaign, his game has been a little underwhelming. I am pretty sure Murray and Dumba will be just as good, if not better than Myers, but Myers is ready now, which is good for the Oilers. I'd take Yakupov before all of them though.

He's basically saying the Oilers need for a Dman prospect is not there but there is an immediate need for a top pairing Dman. There are a lot of top tier Dman available in the draft but none are able to come in at 18-19 and be a top pairing Dman right away which is what the Oilers need. The Oilers Dman prospect pool is pretty deep but all a couple years away.

The Oilers want Gagner as a center as it allows him to be more creative. Don't see a need for Roy in this case.

Ya. I see it from that point of view. But Myers became a top pairing D-man in his rookie season, as a 18/19 year old. It can be done.

Depending where that pick ends up it very well could be dealt. Not sure for who, but I'm sure there is something out there that could intrigue Mr.Tambo

...for real? are you actually serious? 3 of our best players for an un proven forward, decrepit goaltender, china glass fragile forward, and a guy who had an overrated shootout goal that has accomplished virtually nothing in the NHL and a second round pick?

I guess it makes sense that a leafs fan would suggest this but that would NEVER happen, no GM is that stupid.

Roy is not a 1st line centre, especially this season.

They are giving back Grigorenko (a #2/#1 overall), who will become BUFs #1 centre.

Then swap Stafford for Roy, and put Gags on the 1st line C

Mike Keanan (FLA) or Mike Milbury (NYI) would probably be stupid enough.

Agreed then I don't Agreed

Would like the Oilers to get Dumba but I think the Oilers need another Forward for the top 6 and desperately a R Winger...Oilers got more then enough D coming up which 2 or 1 of them could make the Oilers next season, most Oilers forwards coming up are Centers or Left W;Tyler Pitlick, C,Ryan Martindale, C,Curtis Hamilton, LW,Teemu Hartikainen, LW etc the only RW prospect Oilers have is Tobias Rieder, RW and he is just a little bigger then Eberle...
